Callaway Steelhead Plus

Big Bertha. In the world of golf, this is a name that is synonymous with forgiveness, feel and performance. Introduced by Callaway Golf in 1994, the Big Bertha Irons began a revolution with an iron designed to push the weight towards the edge of the club. This unique design became the foundation upon which Callaway would continue to improve, amazing us with every new model. In 1996, Callaway released an updated version of the original Big Bertha, with some modifications. In the new model, designers use the size of the clubhead and the volume of the cavity to push more weight to the edges of the clubhead. Through-Bore hosel actually extends through the center Club provide more stability and feel is expected of all Callaway products. The only model was slightly modified to allow the club to pass through poor lies with drag even less than before.

Callaway also introduced the Big Bertha Gold Series Iron in 1996. With the prototype of the original iron Big Bertha, designers repositioned the sweet spot, added a new contoured sole and distribute the weight in the head. Gold Series Big Bertha RCH 96 has a series axis and are manufactured from an aluminum bronze alloy for a softer feel. The Gold Series Iron kept the original 360 degrees below the channels and face thin constantly. The Great Big Bertha Tungsten Titanium Iron hit the course in 1997. In this design, Callaway used a filling of titanium tungsten to create a club head that was perfect for use in almost all conditions. The insertion only accounts for 15 percent of the volume of the club head, but accounts for 40 percent of the weight maintaining the perfect size and center of gravity exactly where it belongs.

The Big Bertha X-12 Irons X-12 Pro Series followed in 1998. With a lower center of gravity lower than the original Big Bertha Irons, X-12 was designed to help golfers the ball in the air. The X-12 is retained by the lower channel 360, Callaway's patented S2H2 and Tru-Bore Technologies. The Pro-Series was designed for lower handicap golfers and appears Less-Offset design allows the more experienced golfer's ability to work the ball more easily. Also offered are lower channel 360, the S2H2 and Tru-Bore Technologies. X-12 irons were the first irons stainless steel made by Callaway and many believe it was this iron plates set the standard for high performance to follow. The Steelhead X-14 Irons X-12 followed in 2000 and quickly became the biggest selling iron in the history of Callaway. Also available in a Pro-Series, the X-14 appears stainless steel construction and Variable Face Callaway Thickness (VFT) Technology which ensures a perfectly situated old town of gravity (COG). Optimized in the long, medium and short iron, the thickness of face sharp, top to bottom and heel to toe. The Pro-Series designed for advanced golfer was designed with less-Offset than the regular X-14

Callaway Big original Bertha was updated again in 2002. In this set of iron, Callaway said all of it's latest technologies to maintain the original appearance and very popular and the shape of the Big Bertha irons were known. These technologies took the game the golfer to use a whole new level with increased forgiveness and maximum performance. Also introduced in 2002 was the Hawk Eye VFT Irons. In short, in this series, Callaway simply used their knowledge of design adding that the titanium package. The most popular of the Hawk Eye VFT Irons, however, was the internal weight pocket that allowed designers to position mass and the deep low in the clubface. This design provides a unique path without sacrificing forgiveness or feel. The following year, Callaway returned to the table drawing to create the new Steelhead X-16 and Steelhead X-16 Pro Series. The changes include a shorter blade length and wider topline, plus the addition the latest technology of Callaway, Notch Weighting. The X-16 includes features a low center of gravity, a curved sole, and a satin finish. The Pro-Series are gave a similar design to the road, less-offset, thinner topline, narrower sole, and a straight edge leader.

In 2004 and 2006, Callaway introduced two models to the original Big Bertha irons and in 2005, introduced the X-18, X-18 Pro Series Irons, X-Tour Irons, Big Bertha Fusion. Demonstrating once again that his is not a company to rest on it laurels. Known today as the leader and pioneer in the improvement of the game, Callaway Golf continues to make us the best best on the course.
