Almost 50 years ago, in 1959, Karsten Solheim founded his family company, PING, out of his garage. He did what almost every passionate golfer intends to do, your golf clubs doing better!
Specifically Karsten was very frustrated with his putting. I think all golfers can relate to this. I know I can! Karsten now no was a golf pro nor work in research and design for a manufacturer of golf. He honed his skills in his training as a mechanical engineer and through its use by the aerospace and computer industries. These skills are those that provide the basis for designing Karsten and grow one of the best golf manufacturing companies in the world!
Being frustrated with his game started to get to play with the design of a better putter and finally came up with the idea of making a putter ping "when striking the golf ball. This" ping "sound that is why the club gave the name of PING.
Also the attraction of the 'ping' sound, the putter attracted much attention for its design weight from heel to toe. In fact one of the worlds sports magazine, Sports Illustrated, said of the new Ping putter 1A as the 'musical putter' in the sweet sound gave the hit the ball.
Within 2 years of introducing the Ping putter, Karsten designed and built his first set of irons on the basis of engineering principles as strict narrow manufacturing tolerances had put in place to continue their quality putter. The same principles and the tolerances are still very forced at present.
To keep in line with the names of their clubs in a simple but effective named his new plate 69. He believed that a score of 69 is a good round courses. The 69 plates were further modified the weights from heel to toe and placing a cavity in the package of the club face to help improve vaccines.
In 1966, the Golf Association of the United States decided that almost all PING putters should be banned in tournaments. The main reason was the superior quality of PING was seen as an unfair advantage to players who used them. However, there was a PING putter would be allowed during the tournament. The Anser putter would revolutionize the putter in golf. He was the first putter has a cavity in the back and a low center of gravity. This provided a sense superior to all golfers. It was these characteristics that led The Anser putter to win the tournament more than any other.
Today, PING Golf Karsten company that built from his garage is a large company which produces a complete line of golf clubs and premier golf equipment. Although Karsten died in 2000, the company continues to operate as a family business. Many golf professionals are PING golf clubs to use in tournaments.
