Golf Club Long
![]() |
Hybrid golf clubs are increasingly popular among amateurs and professionals. Designed to replace "long" irons, hybrids difficult do 3, 4, 5 and iron shots much easier. They look different than the irons, they feel different from what is natural to question how to use hybrid golf clubs.
First, the question is what makes the hybrid between sheet. The one observation you can tell there's a lot more mass behind of the face is broader and more important, the center of gravity is much smaller than a plate that allows for easier release of the ball. Each year, the main manufacturers come out with improvements in the stability of the club and the clubface. Taylormade this year came out with a single hybrid that lets you dial in the shape and distance of the shot. If the club proves viable, then it is the only hybrid that need in your bag.
How well they work hybrid golf clubs?
Why is the hybrid better than a long iron. The short answer is versatility. They can be used to replace fairway metals and deliver much more predictable and accurate shots than a fairway club without giving up distance. They are much more effective from an iron rough due to its mass and its sole design that allows a gentle touch with the grass. You can even chip with these clubs using a putter movement!
So how do you use a hybrid golf club?
That depends.
If you are using the club as a replacement for a fairway metal, you will be using the same scanning plane of oscillation type that would be used for a 3-wood. This will give the same distance as a metal street, but will give greater accuracy and forgiveness for. Why? Due to fairway metal that has a slight bend in the face while the hybrid is flat. If you hit a curve in the fairway metal will end up with a slice or a hook. The flat face of the hybrid gives a more "straight" hitting surface.
Understand because you are using a swing plane is likely to sweep the ball run after the land.
If you have taken a hybrid instead of a 4-iron, and he is looking for a long shot stick to the ground, then the direction and hit the ball the same way you would if you had an iron in his hand and not the hybrid. Basically this means that swoops on the ball to get a high launch with backspin.
You can play with the hybrid and get a variety of distances and will shot out forms of the same club. Here's an example:
In the course you play regularly in the cases, a par 3 that plays 160-185 yards. I understand that I am a senior golfer and 185 meters was too far for my 7 wood and very close to my 3 wood. Before I got my hybrid, I had to use a three-quarter swing with my 3 wood and laminate flooring finished off the green.
Now when the flag is 185, take my hybrid equivalent of a 4-iron and play like a 3-wood. I can place the ball slightly forward in the posture and use a sweeping swing. Lands in the center of the green and runs to the back.
When the pin is at the center I put the ball in the middle of my position and play like an iron that burns on the ball. The result is a shot high to the city center (170 yards) and sticks. If the pin is located on the front and I'm feeling lucky, I put the ball in my stance and use the same swing as an iron that burns on the ball. This usually produces a very shot high it will fly past the flag and turns the rear wheel.
A club, three different shots. These hybrids may actually improve the confidence which translates into better play your entire round.
I've been playing this silly game for over thirty years and I still love it. The only thing that can keep me away from the course on Saturday morning is my wedding anniversary or a serious natural disaster. I live in Los Angeles and the recent wildfires with their ash and smoke didn't stop our group from getting in a round so when I say serious disaster I'm talking Northridge quake kind of thing.
About nine months ago I took my game to a new level. I bought The Simple Golf Swing ebook and my game took off. Now I'm number 2 on our group's money list and I'm not looking back.
The method is a little counter intuitive and I don't know if it will work for you but it sure works for me.
