The story of Crazy Golf
The holiday in any coastal station in the UK most of them have golf courses where you can go crazy some time with a bit of fun. Children not only find the obstacles in these challenging courses, but enjoy watching their parents in difficulties. But you know you where this sport come from? The following is a brief look at the history of crazy golf.
The first course of this kind was opened in St Andrews, Scotland and that is where the real game of golf is believed to have begun. Here an 18-hole course was developed in 1867 made up of short putting greens so that women can play this game if they were interested. So allowing them to participate in a sport where violence due to the movement of golf club swing was not something that women should be doing.
However, it was several decades before the types of local golf courses available at this time would be seen. Construction Courses through this time until early 1900 were much more similar in the design of real golf. The real difference is that they cover much less space and in most cases to play a one of course, requires only a putter to do so.
Then in the 1920 the game changed and all because of one fan Thomas McCulloch Fairbairn called golf. He developed a new type of material that green crazy golf courses were made in 1922. By mixing the oil, dye, sand and cottonseed hulls of the greens were much easier and cheaper to produce. So this was a game that people of all social strata can participate in.
U.S. only throughout the 1920's tens of thousands of crazy golf courses are under construction in New York only you would find it based on 150 courses over the roofs of some buildings. But with the economic downturn taking hold in the 1930 game started to take a back seat as people simply did not have the money to play and was at this time a large part of the courses have been closed or demolished.
But once the economy had begun to improve when it comes to the history of golf and crazy things started to change too. Two brothers from Binghamton, New York, Robert Taylor and Joseph began to build and operate minigolf courses again. However, these differed greatly from those who had previously built as more obstacles are being introduced. Instead of trying get the ball into the hole by putting on banks, turns and rolls needed to get past obstacles such as pipes, castles, wishing wells and windmills.
