Sixaxis Wireless Controller (SCPH-98040/CECHZC1) (trademark "SIXAXIS") (informally known as PlayStation 3 Wireless Controller) was the official hand-held wireless controller for the PlayStation 3 from Sony, which was later replaced by the DualShock 3. In Japan, Individual Sixaxis controllers were available for purchase simultaneously with the launch of the console, without a USB to mini USB cable. The word "Sixaxis" also used in the sense motion-sensing technology of the PlayStation 3 controllers. The word "Sixaxis" (contraction of "six axis" direction of movement) is a palindrome. Sixaxis controllers can also be used in the PSP Go for either the use of Bluetooth and can connect to the registry system and the PS3 controller.

History

At E3 2005, Sony showed its "boomerang" for the design of the PlayStation 3 controller. Accompanied much criticism, most of whom were by his side, this design was later abandoned. Sony later stated that the original controller "was clearly designed as a design concept and was never intended to be the final controller, despite what everyone said about it. "

Design boomerang was replaced by an altered version, wireless DualShock 2 controller at E3 2006. The Sixaxis controller is being removed, and the DualShock 3 is the controller new staff, in addition to a vibration function even include Sixaxis functionality. However, Europe still have the Sixaxis controller for the summer 2008 as the European Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for PlayStation 3 package includes a Sixaxis. The Sixaxis is no longer produced.

Features and changes design

An important feature of the Sixaxis controller is the ability to sense both rotational orientation and translational acceleration along three dimensional axes, with six degrees of freedom, hence the name. . This became a matter of controversy, because the circumstances of the call, made Less than eight months after Nintendo revealed motion-sensing capabilities in its new console controller (see Wii Remote), led to speculation that the addition detection of movement was a late-stage decision by Sony to follow Nintendo's move. Further fueling speculation was the fact that only Warhawk shown at E3 this year demonstrated the motion detection function. [Citation needed] In addition, some comments from Incognito Entertainment, the developer behind the motion detection PlayStation 3 game, Warhawk, said it received development controllers with the motion sensor have only 10 days or so before E3. Developer Brian Upton from SCE Santa Monica studies later clarified that the Incognito had been secretly working on the detection technology motion "for a while" but did not receive a working controller until "the last few weeks before E3."

The Sixaxis features sensitivity thinner than the DualShock 2 analog, increased the accuracy of 10 bits of precision of 8 bits of DualShock 2. The controller also uses both signals analog and digital simultaneously at all times during the game. The frame below the L2 and R2 buttons has been omitted and these buttons have become trigger-like, with travel range to determine the level of analog input instead of the pressure range. In place of the "analog" switch mode button above dual analog models is a jewel-like "PS button" with the PlayStation logo, which can be used to access the start menu, change the control inputs and turn on the console or the controller on or off.

LED

The top of a DualShock 3 Sixaxis controller, LED lights on the right.

A row Four LED port numbers are in the top of the controller to identify and distinguish multiple wireless controllers. Because there are only four LEDs player in the controller, multiple LEDs light for players 5, 6 and 7 (for example, if the '4 'and '1' indicators light at the same time, the controller is assigned to the player 5). While the PS3 is on, pressing the PS button displays a menu showing the burden of battery sync all controllers and more.

Sixaxis accessories

Battery packs

The battery pack for the SIXAXIS ™ wireless controller is 3.7 V of lithium-ion battery with cable. The package provides up to 30 hours with a full load of games for the continuous remote. It is recommended not to remove the batteries (which differ slightly in voltage). Also included as part of the kit and AC adapter charges as part of the Sixaxis / DualShock 3 battery charger. Third party rechargeable battery kits are also available. Although the USB charger can also be connected to the AC adapter and PlayStation 3 original / thin console. The battery was not originally designed to be replaceable when a Sony spokesperson said that the Sixaxis should operate for "many years before there is any degradation in terms of battery performance. When and if this happens, then, of course, Sony will provide a service in return of these elements. "Later, it was revealed that the Sixaxis came with instructions on how to remove the battery and the battery was fully removable.

AC charging adapter kit

The adapter kit can load cargo Sixaxis or DualShock 3 controllers, the official Bluetooth headset and wireless keyboard. The kit can also charge the PSP-2000 and PSP-3000. The AC charger uses a wall outlet, eliminating the need for a PS3 running by the hardware. Includes a 4.92 feet long USB cable (Type A Mini-B) and an output of 6.56 m long cable AC power cord.

USB 2.0 Cable Pack

The USB 2.0 Cable Pack allows can recharge the controller while playing a game of connect the Sixaxis / DualShock 3 wireless controller and PlayStation Portable on a USB hub. The kit also includes rechargeable battery pack. You should also be noted that the USB 2.0 cable Pack allows use of a wireless controller without the battery, but Sony Computer Entertainment recommends the use of a lithium-ion battery (empty) to prevent damage to the battery compartment open.

The elimination of vibration capability

Sony announced that because including motion sensors, vibration feature of previous PlayStation controllers was removed, stating that the vibration could interfere with the motion sensor. This therefore made the PS3 wireless controller incredibly light, it felt strange to players [citation needed] used to heavier drivers such as the DualShock. Haptics developer Immersion Corporation, which had successfully sued Sony for patent violation, expressed skepticism the justification for Sony, the company president Victor Viegas stating in an interview, "I do not think a very difficult problem to solve, and Immersion has experts who would be happy to solve that problem for them ", provided that Sony withdraw its appeal of the sentence patent infringement. immersion more emphasis on compatibility with motion sensors in the introduction of its next-generation vibration technology feedback, TouchSense. Following statements by Sony are dismissive of the arguments of the dive, with Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) Senior Vice President Marketing Peter Dille said: "It seems that people are looking to dip a kind of negotiating through the press and try to make their case to us that we talked about how there is the possibility of noise interfering with the Sixaxis controller. "

However, in a press statement about eight months Later, Phil Harrison, president of Sony's worldwide studios, said: "Now, rumble I think was the last generation feature, the feature is not next generation I think motion sensitivity is .. "He added that noise would in future only come from third-party drivers.. This false statement showed less than a year later, with the announcement of the DualShock 3.

When any driver of such equipment is used with games requiring the Sixaxis functionality or use analog buttons usability is also limited. Many PlayStation 2 games that were scheduled to use the analog functionality of the PlayStation 2 buttons Drivers do not accept analog input rather Sixaxis or DualShock 3 controllers to be used (although this could be resolved with future firmware updates).

USB drivers are not standard, such as Xbox 360 controllers are not compatible cable with the PlayStation 3. They often also require specific drivers for use in PC (Windows XP and older)
