PING has been an innovator in the industry for long. No one can dispute the importance of the innovations that have been created to help all players. Even in the early PING Karsten Solheim made history by being the first use of heel-toe weighting of the foot in custom putters created. 50 years later, that tradition of vision future and the progress continues, as the G15 cartel new evidence on how far along they have come.
At this point, my experience with PING clubs had limited to their drivers and putters. Though I never pulled the trigger on it, the Rapture Driver V2 was (in my opinion) one of the best pilots he had ever beaten. The G-10 however, was not far behind him, which is why I was thrilled to have the opportunity to review the hybrids in the most recent PING G-series.
PING G-Series are a great choice for anyone who is new the game or you are looking for an all-around solid team with a good degree of forgiveness. Typically, hybrids fit well with this demographic, but always there are players who want to play long irons hybrid counterparts. The G15 hybrid may blend of iron and hybrid to change the minds of some players.
Design
The compact form of the head 17-4 stainless steel G15 hybrid is much shorter in length ( face backwards) that most hybrids inspires street wood. Instead, think of this hybrid to be more like a driving license iron, similar to hybrids Adams became popular. The intention of this design is to make the player in charge of hitting this hybrid in the same way they would with a normal iron.
Perimeter weighting is provided by a toe pad general procedure to provide forgiveness and assistance in locating the center of gravity low and near the face by a high launch and low spin. In fact, PING G15 is a call to its hybrid longer and more tolerant of date due to the pad above the finger.
Performance
To be completely honest, I was not comfortable with the long iron replacement at first. Fortunately, first impressions do not amount to lasting opinion, this club is proof of that. In the address, which seems like a lot of compensation - if I am allowed the pun - that really took off. Irons has played a very minimal amount of compensation, and goes from one extreme to the other took a little getting used.
The other problem I had was the rubber grip stock, which was a bit too small. However, this is a minor issue, very little noteworthy. After the grip changed by a median of New Decade of various compounds, my experience was much better. I'm not sure if it was one thing mental or not, but in my mind, reinforces the importance of a function from the comfort of the hands play in the golf swing. As a side note, the red and black New Decade of several compounds was a great match for this club.
It was obvious after my first trip to the driving range that this hybrid is a real beast. Not seem to matter that the clubface contact is made, it still threw the ball long and straight. With this in mind, the feeling is not very different in a perfectly struck shot which is in one fell near the tip (which can be both a blessing and a curse, depending on who you ask). This may be inconvenient for some, but I do not think anyone could complain about the performance of this club offers.
Guidelines cover the ball was easy. I think this attributed in part to the shape of the head in which I found less likely to go to the ball like a fairway wood, and more likely that the oscillation as expected, as an iron. This has been something I've struggled in the past and is part of the reason I went back to a 3-iron instead of a hybrid. This hybrid makes me re-think that option. The smooth flat-soled feet on the ground and have never had a problem with it getting stuck when they tried to attack the ball at a steeper angle. Each shot that land softly and put into practice a little.
Conclusion
Game improvement is definitely the name of the game with the hybrid G15. The club is ridiculously easy to hit, and would be a great addition to any medium to high handicap bag. The best players may not like amount of compensation, but it will certainly help to anyone struggling with a sector. No one can deny the level of consistency of this club can bring to your game, even if you have trouble making consistent contact in the same area of the clubface. While the G15 is not going to be the most viable club, you can be confident that you will bring of any lie without any problem. However, my general experience with the club was great, because it is very long and very forgiving. I would certainly recommend it to anyone to find a good hybrid.
