Dubai Travel Guide

Understanding Dubai
A relatively new tourist destination, Dubai has gained in popularity in recent years. It is essentially a desert city with superb infrastructure, liberal policies and excellent tourist services. Just 5 hours from Europe and 3 hours of most of Asia, Dubai makes a great short break for shopping, partying, sunbathing, fine dining, sporting events, and even a few sinful pleasures. It is a city of superlatives: the largest faster, higher and higher biggest, Dubai is the destination.

The weekly rest day is Friday. Government departments are Friday and Saturday, while many multinationals are Friday and Saturday. Most local companies work a half day on Thursday. Note that, since September 2006, a harmonized weekend Friday and Saturday approved for the sector public schools.

Dubai Weather

The city of Dubai is located in a coastal strip bordered by desert and gets very hot and humid in the summer. Cooler, more pleasant weather lasts from late September to early May. In May, June, July, August and September, the sun is intense and temperatures can touch 50 degrees Celsius in the city and even more in the desert! The heat, plus humidity of 80-90%, near the sea effectively precludes most outdoor activities in the hours of daylight during the summer.

January and February generally produce the highest precipitation.

Contact in Dubai

In plane

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the largest hub in the Middle East the basis of the Emirates of Dubai flag carrier. The airport is famous for its alcohol tax-free shopping is also available in a store free entry located in the baggage claim area. The allowance is 4 bottles (or four packs of 6) per person.

Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) is located in the emirate of Sharjah. Is only half an hour by road from Dubai and is taking an increasing number of international flights to Dubai International Airport strives to meet the demand. The taxi fare to Dubai usually cost Dhs 50. The airport is pretty basic, but is expanding.
Dubai World City (JXB) recently announced that it will ready by 2010.
Frequent visitors of the countries granted automatic visa on entry may wish to purchase an e-gate card to speed up immigration procedures and save passport pages. Office e-gate card is located in the food court above the departures concourse. The card will cost AED 150. Note: If you to buy e-gate card in Dubai, United Arab Emirates must have entered through Dubai airport and not Sharjah.

By car

Dubai's only international road border is with Oman at Al Wajajah. Expatriate residents of Oman will require official permission to leave Oman by road. The Visitors do not need permission. There is an OMR 3,000 per vehicle charge to leave Oman and, if returning, retain the charge receipt as it will be necessary to re-enter. Make sure the insurance is valid for the UAE (preferably before commencing the journey). Secure Temporary UAE you can buy at the border for a higher price. Leaving Oman is well ordered, but several miles down the road, entry into the UAE is totally disorganized, so, be prepared for a wait.
There are also edges of the roads between the neighboring Emirate of Abu Dhabi and Oman at the oasis of Al Burami which divides the sister quote from Al Ain, United Arab Emirates and Burami Al, Oman. Some people have experienced problems logging in Oman in the position of Al Wajajah and re-enter the United United Arab Al Burami Oasis.

By boat

Dubai is a trading center barges across the Indian Ocean. Travelers who want to reach the city in this way will probably have to make their own arrangements with the captain of the ship.

Getting around Dubai

By bus

Dubai has a good bus service with buses at 20 minute intervals in general. However, the service bus is not recommended for tourists, it is not as extensive as in other major cities worldwide. The main bus stations are gold Souq Market (in Deira) and Al Ghubaiba bus station (in Bur Dubai). Bus services are also available to other emirates (Al Ghubaiba). Ramadan are times different.

Use the Dubai public transport as a cheaper way to travel within the several districts in Dubai. The rate rises to 1.50 AED easy and affordable for those who prefer a cheaper mode of transport. There is a bus stop on almost all roads in Dubai and all the friendly people in Dubai, will find no difficulties for help at any point in time. Self-explanatory maps, and marks the route and bus numbers are placed in every bus stop. At any time, If in doubt, just ask the bus driver for help!

By taxi

Taxis are reasonably priced and easy to find on all major roads in urban areas, 24 hours. The official taxis (cream) are much cheaper than people approaching you in the airport saying "I want a taxi?". Being measured, thus saving a bargain price. From the airport, there is a flat fee of AED 20, all pick ups more attract a fee 3.00 AED fixed. You can give up a taxi anywhere. When driving the rate is 1.60 kilometers from AED There is nothing to choose in the rates of between 5 players: Dubai Transport National Car, Metro, and Arabic as well, take the first comer. Dubai driving standard ranges from poor to wild - taxis are some of the worst on the roads.

By car

There are a number of Rent-A-Car, which provide a means of transport at very low prices and very little paperwork. A International Driving Permit is not necessarily required, but the rental companies can not rent a car without one. Depending on which country you are (UK, USA and Australia Licenses are acceptable), your driver's license could be used to obtain a temporary driving permit at the licensing office in the city center mall.
Some car rental agencies complete with drivers. Visitors taking advantage of this option will have to make sure your driver knows his way around because many do not.
When driving on main roads like Sheikh Zayed Road, the number of connections are not logical! Exit 13 is only after 18 years and are rarely as shown on the maps. Road names can also be very confusing with slight differences in spelling (due to transliteration from Arabic) it is very important. Construction work is taking place throughout and around Dubai can make finding your destination a challenge. temporary road designs change with alarming regularity and temporary signs can be misleading or nonexistent.
Driving during peak morning and afternoon hours is not recommended, decreases as the traffic to a standstill and even a simple trip across a bridge can take up to 45 minutes. There is also a shortage of parking spaces in many parts of the city.
With a mixture of nationalities residing in the city, driving styles are mixed to say the least. Dangerous driving will be witnessed or experienced frequently, and keep in mind that Dubai has one of the highest per capita rates of road death in the world. There is zero tolerance for drinking and driving with out severe penalties, including jail and deportation.

By boat

An easier way to cross the Dubai Creek Open is essentially a small ferry. Abra stations are located along the creek on both the Bur Dubai and Deira sides, and the filling system is very efficient ships. The travel across the river 1 dirham (AED 1) per passenger, to pay the driver after the boat has left the station, and offers a picturesque view of the city (not to be lost.) Frequently left open, and the service is available throughout the day.

Abras can also be hired for a private tour (for a price negotiable with the driver, but usually very cheap). This is a popular activity at sunset on a clear day, especially if the driver is able to enliven the tour with stories about the structures on both sides the stream. Just make sure that the purpose of your open car hire is evident in the first place - otherwise you'll be on a trip across the river very expensive or a private tour crowded.

The Creek is also home to many boats offering more comfortable (and more expensive) tours, often in boats designed to resemble dhows. Prices tend to top of the scale, particularly for dinner cruises with entertainment on board.
